Privacy Policy π¦
We're transparent about how we handle your data. Randy promises to keep your information safe and never sell it.

1. Introduction
Welcome to Ranccoon! We're a simple tool that tracks Domain Ratings. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service. We built this for indie makers, so we keep things straightforward and transparent. No corporate jargon, just the facts.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign up, we collect your email address and optionally your name. That's it. We use this to create your account and send you important updates about your domains.
Domain Information
You provide us with domain names you want to track. We use this information to fetch Domain Rating data from third-party services (like Ahrefs) and display it to you.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage information like when you log in, which pages you visit, and how you interact with the service. This helps us improve Ranccoon and fix bugs. We use analytics tools (like Datafa) to understand how the service is used.
Chrome Extension Data
If you use our Chrome extension, we collect the following information:
- β’API Keys: Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's encrypted sync storage. We never see your plain API key - only a hashed version is stored on our servers for authentication purposes.
- β’Domain Information: When you select a domain in the extension, we fetch your domain's statistics (DR rating, backlinks, etc.) from our servers to display in the extension popup.
- β’Website URLs: When you use the auto-fill feature, the extension accesses the current page URL to identify form fields. This information is only used locally in your browser to fill forms - we don't collect or store the URLs you visit.
- β’Form Data: The extension reads form fields on pages you visit to auto-fill them. This data never leaves your browser - it's only used locally to populate form fields with your domain information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- β’To provide and maintain our service (tracking your domains, sending alerts, etc.)
- β’To notify you about changes to your Domain Ratings
- β’To send you service-related emails (like daily summaries or important updates)
- β’To improve and optimize Ranccoon based on how you use it
- β’To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- β’Chrome Extension: API keys are used to authenticate API requests to fetch your domain data. Domain information is used to display statistics in the extension and auto-fill forms. No browsing data or form content is transmitted to our servers.
4. Chrome Extension Specific Information
Permissions and Data Handling
Our Chrome extension requires the following permissions:
- β’Storage: Used to securely store your API key in Chrome's encrypted sync storage. This allows the extension to authenticate with our API without requiring you to enter your key each time.
- β’ActiveTab: Allows the extension to access the current tab's URL and content only when you click the extension icon or use the auto-fill feature. This is necessary to identify form fields and fill them with your domain information.
- β’Scripting: Required to inject the content script that detects and fills form fields on web pages. The script only runs when you explicitly trigger the auto-fill feature.
- β’Host Permissions (https://www.ranccoon.com/*, https://ranccoon.com/*): Allows the extension to make API requests specifically to our servers (ranccoon.com) over HTTPS to fetch your domain data. The extension only requests access to ranccoon.com domains - it does not request broad permissions to access all websites. The extension does not access, collect, or transmit data from other websites you visit. Access to form fields on other websites is handled through the activeTab permission and on-demand script injection, which only grants access when you explicitly click the "Auto-Fill" button.
What We Don't Collect
The extension does not collect, transmit, or store:
- β’Your browsing history or URLs you visit (except when you explicitly use auto-fill)
- β’Form data or content from websites you visit
- β’Personal information from forms you fill
- β’Any data from websites other than ranccoon.com
Data Storage
Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's sync storage, which is encrypted by Chrome. We store a hashed version of your API key on our servers for authentication. All API requests are made directly from your browser to our servers over HTTPS. No data is stored by the extension itself - it only acts as a bridge between your browser and our API.
Your Control
You have full control over the extension:
- β’You can revoke your API key at any time in your Ranccoon profile settings
- β’You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data
- β’The auto-fill feature only works when you explicitly click the "Auto-Fill Current Page" button
- β’You can disable the extension for specific websites using Chrome's extension settings
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We don't sell your data. Period. Here's who we might share information with:
- β’Service Providers: We use third-party services (like database hosting, email delivery) that need access to your data to function. They're bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
- β’Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights, we may disclose information. But we'll fight for your privacy when possible.
- β’Business Transfers: If Ranccoon is acquired or merged, your data would transfer to the new owner. We'd notify you if this happens.
6. Data Security
We take security seriously. Your passwords are hashed (we can't see them), and we use industry-standard encryption. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security. Randy does his best to keep your data safe, but even raccoons can't prevent all cyber threats.
7. Your Rights
You have rights over your data:
- β’Access: You can see what data we have about you
- β’Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time
- β’Correction: You can update your information in your account settings
- β’Opt-out: You can unsubscribe from marketing emails (but we'll still send important service updates)
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below or use the settings in your account.
8. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in and to understand how you use Ranccoon. We use analytics tools (like Datafa) that may set cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some features might not work properly. We don't use cookies to track you across other websites.
9. Children's Privacy
Ranccoon is not intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you're a parent and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via email or through the service. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was last revised. Your continued use of Ranccoon after changes means you accept the updated policy.
